It's always great to see the traveling 'cross community again at the first USGP's, this year to Kentucky for some solid bike racing both days. And that's really what it is--bike racing. Driving your bike as fast as you can in whatever conditions avail themselves.
I'm always especially motivated to see the younger riders and how they're going. It was cool to see a quarter of the elite men's field comprised of espoirs (23 out of 88) and to know that over half of those 23 have raced cross in Europe, either at the camp or worlds. Sven Nys (Rabobank) won the second round of the Cyclo-Cross World Cup Saturday in Tabor, Czech Republic. Jonathan Page (Sun Web) was the highest placed American coming in 2:14 behind Nys for 23rd place. Tabor will host the World Championship Cyclocross race in 2010. Seven Americans competed in the first of this season’s nine UCI Cyclo-cross World Cups on October 21 in Belgium. Jonathan Page (Northfield, N.H./Sunweb-Projob) was the top American finisher in the elite men’s race with an 11th-place finish behind winner Zdenek Stybar (CZE).
