SELECTION GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURE
Euro Cross Camp has two objectives: to prepare American riders for the world championships and to offer emerging talent an opportunity to gain European race experience.
Twelve to sixteen riders will be selected on 3 December 2007 to attend Euro Cross Camp V.
Camp selection is based solely on the Director’s discretion. As a result, the Director and his staff will use the following guidelines to select the riders:
- Strong performance in continental European UCI World Cup and class 1 and 2 cyclocross races from 15 September 2007 through 2 December 2007.
- Strong performance in the US Gran Prix of Cyclocross national series 2007 races (Louisville KY, Mercer NJ, Portland OR).
- Recent improvement in US calendar races from 15 September 2007 through 2 December 2007. In order of priority: 1) US UCI class 1 and 2 calendar races; 2) US regional non-UCI class races; 3) US local non-UCI class races.
- For elite men, riders must be in the top 100 in the UCI ranking by 3 December, 2007 to be considered.
- The director and staff reserve the right to select the most conducive combination of riders by category. In other words, there is no set number of juniors, espoirs, women, or elite men for the camp. The numbers will be based on who is interested, who is riding well, staffing, and team dynamics.
- Regular communication with the Director is highly encouraged. As the season progresses, it’s important for interested riders to keep in touch with the Director concerning season objectives, financial situation, and injuries and illness.
- Euro Cross Camp understands the financial burden to the riders and sponsors for both the camp and the possibility of returning for worlds a month later. It is crucial to analyze objectives and ways to finance the rider’s goals. One source is the USA Cycling Development Foundation grants. Another is to fundraise in the rider’s community and through the rider’s club and team. Also, one thing to keep in mind, the cost of attending Euro Cross Camp is still probably less than racing/traveling around the US to a commensurate number of races.
